This week we'll review measurement methods and equivalents.
You'll measure and mix ingredients to make cookie dough. Then, you'll portion, bake, eat, and evaluate your cookies. Here's an outline for the week: Tuesday (1/21) -- Baking math / reading recipes Wednesday (1/22) -- Measurement methods * Thursday (1/23) -- Measure ingredients & mix cookie dough * Friday (1/24) -- Roll, bake, and eat cookies * Lab activities planned on these days. Please dress appropriately. Recipes are linked below: You did a great job making these in class :)
If you need a recipe for either of these, just ask. Most of you were confident that you could prepare them again from memory. Here is the recipe for the s'mores bark we made in class.
For s'mores bark carefully melt chocolate chips in the microwave at 30 second intervals. Stir well, then fold in mini-marshmallows and crumbled graham crackers. Spread the mixture on a parchment covered sheet pan and refrigerate until hardened. When ready, cut into pieces and enjoy! You can change the type of chocolate and add-ins to create a variety of easy treats. This week we'll review safe and sanitary kitchen practices. You'll learn to use some basic equipment and utensils when you make grilled cheese sandwiches and quesadillas.
Here is a look at this week's schedule: Monday (1/13) -- Recycling Recap / Sanitation & Safety Tuesday (1/14) -- Sanitation & Safety Wednesday (1/15) -- Equipment Safety -- Microwave Ovens Thursday (1/16) -- Equipment Safety -- Electric Skillets * Friday (1/17) -- Grilled Cheese Sandwiches & Quesadillas * Lab activities planned on these days. Please dress appropriately. Last week in review: FCS students discussed the practices of recycling (including reducing and reusing products), composting, and upcycling. The amount of plastic accumulating in our environment is both startling and disturbing. The links below provide additional information about this global dilemma. Plastic Ocean https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ju_2NuK5O-E Plastics https://www.pbs.org/video/how-much-plastic-is-in-the-ocean-jpfpsf/ Plastic in the Pacific https://www.pbslearningmedia.org/resource/kqedq11.sci.plasticinthepacific/plastic-in-the-pacific/ RTMS staff and students can recycle and compost in our classrooms, restrooms, lounges, offices, and cafeteria. Many students create upcycled projects in
both core and elective courses using materials that would have gone to the landfill. |
